Our Sixth Anniversary!
Join us on June 21 to wish The Story Collider a very happy sixth birthday! Storytellers will include Story Collider's own Ben Lillie and Skylar Bayer, and popular storytellers from past shows. This event will also feature some festive Story Collider trivia -- with prizes.
Stories by:
Skylar Bayer is a PhD candidate studying the secret sex lives of scallops in the great state of Maine. Due to a mishap involving a fisherman, buckets of gonads, and an unlocked Chevy, she once lost all her research samples, but gained a segment on The Colbert Report. She has also appeared as a guest on MPBN's Maine Calling and manages the blog and podcast, Strictlyfishwrap. Skylar has produced and hosted shows for The Story Collider throughout Maine.
Matt Danzico is a journalist, filmmaker and tinkerer for the BBC. He's currently chief of the company's traveling unit, BBC Pop Up, which relocates to new cities and countries for a month at a time. Pop Up is also a crowd-sourcing team that films short documentaries on stories suggested to the BBC by its audience. The unit has most recently spent time in India and East Africa, where they covered issues ranging from digital militias to headhunting tribes. In past lives, Matt ran an innovation lab for the BBC, worked as a video journalist for Discovery Channel, reported from the UN for a Japanese newspaper and played in punk rock bands in Pennsylvania. Outside of work, he runs social experiments, like The Time Hack, which forced him to explore his own perception of time throughout a full calendar year. He currently lives in Los Angeles with his fiancée and their surfboards.
Kelli Dunham is everyone's favorite ex-nun genderqueer author/nurse comedic storyteller and the author of seven books of humorous nonfiction, mostly having to do with puberty, body parts and bad decisions. You may have read Kelli’s unique humorously helpypants voice in articles on Refinery29, XOJane, The New Republic, Thought Catalog and Autostraddle as well as the NPR Health Blog. Kelli has appeared on Showtime and the Discovery Channel and nationwide at colleges, prides, fundraisers and even the occasional livestock auction. Kelli was nominated to be a 2105 White House Champion of Change for her work as the co-founder and co-curator of Queer Memoir, NYC's first longest-running and most earnest LGBT storytelling event. Kelli's fifth CD "Gender Envy" is available on her website and wherever awkward nerd comedy is sold.
Elana Lancaster is a health educator and storyteller who lives in Brooklyn. He's a Moth Slam winner, and co-hosts and co-produces the monthly show Take Two Storytelling. When he's not talking about himself onstage, he can often be found teaching and writing about LGBT health, working with medical providers to help them provide better care for transgender patients, and sharing random facts about sperm.
Ben Lillie, founder of The Story Collider, is a high-energy particle physicist who left the ivory tower for the wilds of New York's theater district. He previously was a graduate student at Stanford, a postdoc at the University of Chicago and Argonne National Laboratory, was a staff writer for TED.com, and has published in The Atlantic Tech, Slate, and Method Quarterly.
