After realizing her love of talking about science while consenting patients during her PhD for her tissue engineering project, Alison Müller realized she enjoyed sharing science far more than babysitting cells. She pivoted from academia to pursue a career in science communication and is the Digital Content Specialist with both non-profit health research organizations, the CIHR Canadian HIV Trials Network and Centre for Advancing Health Outcomes, based out of Vancouver, BC. She is also the Programming Chair of Science Slam Canada, a national non-profit aimed at connecting communities and promoting science literacy and engagement through fun and informative poetry slam-inspired Science Slams. Jordyn Rice is a postdoctoral fellow based in Vancouver, BC. She is a physical therapist and researcher dedicated to finding strategies to promote healthy aging. While she is passionate about clinical research her love of neuroscience was sparked while studying sea slugs. Outside of the lab you can find her tucked into the mountains, rock climbing, or riding her bike.

 

Kris Cu grew up in the bustling city of Manila, the Philippines and loved watching the Pied Fantails forage around his neighbour's garden. He carried his love of birds when his family moved to Canada and is now the Outreach Specialist for Birds Canada. Kris loves photographing the rich diversity of birds and other wildlife around Vancouver.

 

Dr. Shreyas Patankar is a Research Scientist at Ocean Wise, a global conservation non-profit organization based in Vancouver, Canada. He specializes in using analytical tools to understand scale and identify sources of microplastic pollution in the ocean. His research aims to inform targeted action by governments, corporations, and individuals to cut down plastic pollution. Shreyas holds a PhD in Physics from the University of California, Berkeley, and has previously worked with novel materials for energy technology at the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab in California, and the Stewart Blusson Quantum Matter Institute in Vancouver. Outside of research Shreyas pursues direct climate action via political organizing, especially at the local and municipal level.
