Whether it’s a new town, country, or even language—nobody likes feeling lost in unfamiliar territory. Step out of your comfort zone this Halloween season and join the Story Collider in Atlanta for an evening of true, personal stories about science at Waller’s Coffee Shop.

Maggie Beker is an actor, writer, and comedian. She trained at the Second City Chicago and Dad's Garage. Maggie most recently performed as Myrtle Mae in "Harvey" and Rachel in the new work "You-Haul-It" at the Orlando Fringe Festival. Her favorite type of work is magical realism, and her least favorite food is olives.

 

Jon Goode is an Emmy nominated writer raised in Richmond, VA and currently residing in Atlanta, GA. Jon’s work has been featured on CNN, HBO, VH1, MTV, TVOne, and BET. His writing earned him the 2006 Promax Gold for the best copyright in North America, and in 2022 he won a gold American Advertising Award, and a Silver Telly. Jon's debut novel, Mydas, was a #1 new title on Amazon and is available wherever you buy books. Jon is the current host of The Moth, Atlanta.

 

Robbie Hable received his PhD in Chemical Engineering at the end of 2019 with an emphasis in biological & thermochemical conversion processes for converting various biomass sources into alternative crude oil resources. Robbie had to overcome several mental health challenges throughout his graduate career. It was through support networks such as PhDBalance and Cheeky Scientist that Robbie was able to finish his degree and find a career in industry. His successes have been highlighted both in Nature and TEDx talks. Robbie is currently employed by BASF and works as an Innovation Manager for the Dispersions & Resins (paints & adhesives) business located in Charlotte, NC. In his free time, Robbie can be found on the lake, at the ice rink or improv comedy club, or flying his drone.

 


Sarah Strassler is a Biochemistry PhD student at Emory University with a passion for science communication and international science education. She’s a University of Florida alumna (Go Gators!) and former Peace Corps Volunteer (Ghana 2015-2018). While her main Peace Corps assignment involved teaching high school science, she dabbled in cashew grafting, youth leadership camps, and beekeeping. She was awarded Education Volunteer of the Year by the Ghana Ministry of Education and enstooled as Queen Mother of Development by her community. As a graduate student, Sarah received a National Science Foundation Fellowship to support her research on RNA-protein interactions. When Sarah is not in the lab, you can find her going for a hike, playing with her betta fish (Gill Nye), or challenging people to a very competitive game of Scrabble.
