Larry Gilbertson is a molecular biologist at Bayer Crop Science in St Louis. Larry fell in love with biology when he was stationed on Guam while in the navy, the first time he put on a snorkel mask and stuck his face in the ocean. His fascination with the living world led to curiosity about how cells work, and ultimately how DNA works. For twenty-four years at Bayer, Larry has worked with and led teams of scientists to learn how genes work to produce useful traits in crop plants. Realizing that public understanding and acceptance of science is as important as the science itself, Larry spends a significant amount of time on public science engagement, and will happily talk about the science of biotechnology with anyone, anytime, anywhere.
