Hilary Agro is a PhD student in Anthropology at the University of British Columbia. She studies recreational drug use and drug policy, focusing on the benefits and positives of recreational drug use which are widely recognized and experienced by users themselves, but seldom included in academic or mainstream discussions of drugs. She also looks at drug prohibition and how its racialized and capitalist entanglements impact users. Hilary co-runs the social media for the journal Cultural Anthropology and has run workshops on social media management, consent culture, and harm reduction. She's passionate about public outreach and activism and works for change through Canadian Students for Sensible Drug Policy as well as online on Twitter (@hilaryagro) and the blog she writes based on her ethnographic research (hilaryagro.wordpress.com). She is the delighted new mom of a beautiful baby girl.
Jo Dworschak is an award winning storyteller, comedian and producer. She has Vancouver’s biggest storytelling show Story Story Lie monthly at The Rio Theatre (next show Feb 13th) and Vancouver’s smallest storytelling show, Weekly Stories every Wednesday at The Drive Coffee Bar. She’ll be bringing back Oh Man! her one woman show about men in March. Follow her @StoryStory_Jo
Kayla Glynn has a Masters in Marine Management from Dalhousie University where she specialized in liability and compensation for environmental damage. She is passionate about sharing her knowledge of the ocean with others and believes that given the right information and tools, people are capable of mitigating their impacts on the planet and fostering a deeper relationship with the natural world. To help more people foster this relationship, Kayla has recently shifted her focus to the realm of science communication. In addition to being the Digital Communications and Research Specialist for Clear Seas Centre for Responsible Marine Shipping, Kayla is also a producer at The Story Collider where she hosts live events and leads workshops on behalf of the organization. Matt Loeb is the given name for the flesh vessel that traverses existence between cell duplication and inevitable carbon redistribution. Raised in Windsor, Ontario but now residing in Vancouver, Matt is a modern storyteller lucky enough to have performed his work across Canada, the USA, and Australia. A two-time finalist at the Canadian Individual Poetry Slam, Matt also takes this work into schools and uses slam poetry to teach writing, public speaking, and critical thinking skills. For several years he has worked with UBC Medical School’s Standardized Patient program to help students learn sensitive exams.
