Lindsay Acree, Pharm.D., AE-C is an assistant professor at the University of Charleston School of Pharmacy. She received her pharmacy degree from the University of Charleston School of Pharmacy in 2013 and completed a PGY1 residency in academia/ambulatory care also with the University of Charleston. Dr. Acree provides patient care in several clinics throughout the Charleston area including the City of Charleston Wellness clinic and the Family Health Associates of South Charleston. Dr. Acree is a board certified asthma educator. Her involvement with the Harm Reduction Clinic located within the Kanawha Charleston Health Department includes teaching the naloxone training to patients, caregivers, and members of the community as well as assisting with Harm Reduction Clinic services. In addition to clinical services, Dr. Acree teaches several topics within the University such as substance use disorders, asthma, COPD, and tobacco cessation.
John Amos is an expert in the use of satellite images and other remote sensing data to understand and communicate local, regional and global environmental issues. Educated as a geologist (University of Wyoming – MS, Cornell University – BS) he spent 10 years applying image processing, image analysis, and digital mapping techniques to conduct environmental, exploration and resource assessment studies for the energy and mining industries and government entities. In 2001 John founded SkyTruth, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization based in Shepherdstown, WV, and dedicated to strengthening environmental conservation by illuminating environmental problems and issues through the use of satellite images, aerial photographs, and other kinds of remote sensing and digital mapping. As President he develops organizational strategy and partnerships, mentors technical staff, and provides remote sensing expertise as needed. He also serves on the boards of Chesapeake Commons and Global Fishing Watch, a nonprofit organization formed by SkyTruth, Oceana and Google, and on the advisory board of The Ocean Foundation. John and his wife Amy live in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Sean Collins is currently an associate professor of Biology at West Virginia State University. He was born and raised in The Bronx, NYC and is a graduate of the Bronx High School of Science, St. Lawrence University (B.S.), and the University of Illinois (M.S. and Ph.D). Following graduate school, he worked at The Ohio State University as a post-doctoral researcher. As a scientist, he is an entomologist and does research on invasive species and the genetics of populations. In particular, he most enjoys conducting research on the social Hymenoptera (ants, bees and wasps).
Rebecca Crowder is the executive director of Lily’s Place, the first Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome Center in the country. Lily’s Place provides medical care to infants suffering from NAS and offers non-judgmental support, education and counseling services to families and caregivers. She was instrumental in the opening of Recovery Point WV, a program that offers recovery services to those suffering from substance use disorder at no cost. Rebecca lives in Huntington WV with her husband and two children. In a state that has been hit so hard by the opioid epidemic she strives to be a part of the solution and fights for the return of a healthy community for her own children and for those that she serves.
Danielle Grant is an Agriculture Science teacher at Buffalo High School. She had the privilege of being the first agriculture education teacher in Putnam County since the 1960’s and has established and grown the program since 2012. With only five years of teaching experience, Danielle was named the Putnam County Teacher of the Year in 2017. Before teaching at Buffalo High School, Danielle taught Agriculture Education for one year at Lincoln County High School and was employed as a Marketing Specialist for the West Virginia Department of Agriculture.
In 2016, Danielle was a National Finalist for the American Farm Bureau Discussion Meet and was awarded a tractor. In addition to her teaching career, Danielle chairs the West Virginia Farm Bureau Young Farmer and Rancher Committee, volunteers with the Putnam County Fair Board and Livestock Committee, and serves on the Agriculture Education Entrepreneurship committee. Her FFA students have also received numerous state wins and multiple national finalist and semi-finalist awards during her time as FFA Advisor. Danielle resides in Southside, WV, on her family’s beef cattle farm, with her husband and two children.
Trey Kay is creator of the Us & Them podcast and radio program, which is produced by West Virginia Public Broadcasting and PRX. For years, he’s reported on culture war battles in America. In 2009, he produced the radio documentary “The Great Textbook War,” which was honored with Peabody, Murrow, and duPont-Columbia Awards. In 2013, he produced “The Long Game: Texas’ Ongoing Battle for the Direction of the Classroom,” which he researched as a Spencer Fellow for Education Reporting at the Columbia School of Journalism. In 2005, he shared in another Peabody for his contribution to Studio 360’s “American Icons: Moby Dick.” He’s produced for This American Life, The New Yorker Radio Hour, Marketplace, American RadioWorks, Morning Edition, Inside Appalachia and PBS Frontline. Kay has taught at the Columbia School of Journalism, Marist College and the State University of New York at New Paltz. He splits time living in New York’s Hudson Valley and the Kanawha Valley of West Virginia.
