Skylar Bayer is a marine biologist, a storyteller, and a science communicator. Currently, she is completing a fellowship in policy in D.C., where she is learning how to communicate in Congress. However, her heart, husband, house, and dogs all still reside in Maine. She completed her Ph.D. in the secret sex lives of scallops, a subject that landed her on The Colbert Report in 2013. Since then she has dabbled in a diversity of science communication activities, all of which you can read about on her website. She also enjoys Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, the gentle art. Rose Hendricks is a cognitive scientist at the FrameWorks Institute who researches communications strategies for a range of social and scientific issues. She earned her PhD in cognitive science from UC San Diego, studying the ways that metaphors in language shape the way we perceive and think about the world. She's also on the Leadership Team for ComSciCon, a series of science communication workshops designed by graduate students, for grad students. Adena Leibman is an Ocean and Natural Resources Counsel with the U.S. Senate. She currently works on a broad range of issues, ranging from coastal resiliency and fisheries to infrastructure and disaster relief. Before returning to the Hill as staff in 2015, she worked in an oceans-focused NGO. She was a 2009 NOAA Knauss Fellow in the Senate and has clerked with the U.S. Department of Justice and Bonneville Power Administration. She has a B.S. and M.S. in marine science from the University of South Carolina where she researched loggerhead sea turtle population genetics. Adena also has a J.D. from Lewis & Clark Law School in Portland, OR. Since college, she's also dabbled in stand-up and other forms of comedic performance.
Amy Saidman, Artistic Executive Director of Story District, has been the driving force behind the growth of storytelling as a performance genre in Washington, DC and regionally. Called DC's "matriarch of storytelling", she's been running Story District's programs, telling stories, hosting, inventing new ways to present storytelling, building relationships with other local arts groups, and spreading the gospel since 2001. She began coaching and teaching storytelling in 2006 and, along with the Story District teaching staff, has developed a curriculum and pedagogy for teaching the art of storytelling that includes more than five different classes at different levels and customized trainings for corporate, government, and nonprofit clients.
Chris Wade is a native Washingtonian and a retired member of the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, DC. He is a Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator and currently works in healthcare security. Chris is a graduate of the Johns Hopkins University Police Executive Leadership Program, is a certified Mental Health First Aid instructor and a certified CPI Nonviolent Crisis Intervention instructor. He is married to his best friend and simply adores his children. His life is filled with countless adventures which he is willing to share through storytelling.
