Stories by:
Shawn Simonson is a Professor and the Director of the Human Performance Laboratory in the Department of Kinesiology at Boise State University. He teaches at both the undergraduate and graduate levels as well as laboratory and performance-oriented courses. His teaching goal is to make students appropriately uncomfortable as he helps them become life-long learners. Simonson conducts research in exercise (novel conditioning programs) and environmental physiology as well as in the scholarship of teaching and learning. His passions are scuba diving, working with his hands, teaching, and learning. If he is not participating in some sort of physical activity, he is probably working on a home project, modifying his car, working his dogs, or reading/writing something.
Jade Wilcox is a Marine Corps veteran, mother of 4, future teacher, engineering+ STEM-Ed major, experience as a mechanic, HVAC tech, and electrician.
Elle Cotton is a sophomore Engineering Plus major from Elk River, Minnesota with hopes of going into the Environmental Engineering field. She is also an athlete on the volleyball team here at Boise State. When Elle is not in the classroom or on the court, she enjoys spending time doing outdoor activities with friends such as hiking, skiing, or camping.
Savannah Doran: I am a student at Boise State graduating in May 2024 with a BA in Interdisciplinary studies which is a three-part major including an Art Entrepreneurship minor, Business Plus Minor, and Engineering Design Certificate. I chose to create my major to help gain the knowledge needed for owning my own custom car shop in the future. I have a passion for cars whether that is modifying, restoring, or drag racing them. Cars are art on wheels to me. I love inspiring others to be involved with the car community. The passion I have for cars helps me learn new things and keep an open mind. My current experiences include working as an Admin Assistant in a Civil Engineering Company, Automotive bodywork and painting, Restoring, maintaining, and racing cars, along with many other skills. My main motivation every day is bettering myself against what I have already achieved. There are few women in the Automotive industry, and I am proud to say I want to change that.
