Prof.Ound is a Bronx-born and raised spoken word artist, actor, writer, educator and environmentalist. Prof.Ound’s creative work is notable for its Afrocentric emphasis on audience participation and conveying moral/ethical lessons. Merging these aesthetic values into their ecological restoration work and background, Prof.Ound has been developing and workshopping a culturally responsive arts-based outdoor education pedagogy. Prof.Ound strives to ensure the full participation and autonomous leadership of marginalized communities in environmental movements.
Born and raised in Queens, NYC, Nafisa Tabassum has been writing and telling stories for many years. She is a recent graduate of the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry. Her hobbies include composting, painting, and identifying trees while in motion. She currently works for the Syracuse City of Parks and Recreation Department in the Urban Forestry Division. Nafisa will be continuing education in Forestry and pursuing certifications in Arboriculture.
Gregory Quirk is a neuroscientist at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine. He studies how the brain suppresses fearful memories by engaging the prefrontal cortex. Raised in Connecticut, he has spent 20 years mentoring young scientists from Puerto Rico and other parts of Latin America. When not in the lab likes to play the violin, play with his cat, or run by the ocean (but not ride a bike…).
Kaliris Y. Salas-Ramirez is an assistant medical professor at the CUNY School of Medicine in New York City. Her research focus is understanding sex specific interventions for cognitive decline resulting from drug exposure during different stages of development. Her passion is mentoring and elevating students from underrepresented groups and diversifying the research and health enterprise. Originally from Puerto Rico, Dr. Salas has lived in NYC for 11 yrs, where she is raising her, soon to be, two sons while fighting for educational equity from pre-k to higher ed striving to live in anti-racist communities.
Jenice Matias is a dancer, singer, actress, comedy writer, and storyteller. Her story on the Guys We Fucked podcast has been listened to over a quarter of a million times, and she performs storytelling all over New York City. She is currently revamping her solo show “Pussinomics: a comedy” a political satire on the selling and marketing of the female persona.
