Join us for our April show in Washington, DC featuring five true, personal stories inspired by the hurdles life throws our way. From a heart-warming quest to start a new family to the daunting task of tackling the opioid epidemic in a local community, hear stories about finding the inner strength to persevere.

Lindsay Acree, Pharm.D., AE-C is an assistant professor at the University of Charleston School of Pharmacy.  She received her pharmacy degree from the University of Charleston School of Pharmacy in 2013 and completed a PGY1 residency in academia/ambulatory care also with the University of Charleston.  Dr. Acree provides patient care in several clinics throughout the Charleston area including the City of Charleston Wellness clinic and the Family Health Associates of South Charleston.  Dr. Acree is a board certified asthma educator.  Her involvement with the Harm Reduction Clinic located within the Kanawha Charleston Health Department includes teaching the naloxone training to patients, caregivers, and members of the community as well as assisting with Harm Reduction Clinic services.  In addition to clinical services, Dr. Acree teaches several topics within the University such as substance use disorders, asthma, COPD, and tobacco cessation.

Wendy Bohon is a geologist who studies earthquakes and works to improve the communication of hazard and risk before, during and after rapid onset geologic hazards. She holds a PhD and MSc in geology and a BA in theater and geology. She is currently a geologist and science communication specialist for the Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology. Brittany Carney is a stand-up comedian now based in New York, though she started in Washington. She has performed at the DC Improv Comedy Club, DC Drafthouse, Big Hunt, Kennedy Center, Caroline’s on Broadway, and Upright Citizens Brigade Theater.  She has also appeared in comedy festivals around the country, including Indiana’s Limestone Comedy Festival and Colorado’s High Planes Comedy Festival.

Jon Lambert is a science journalist currently based in Washington D.C. Before writing about science, he was actually doing it as a PhD student at Cornell University studying how new species form, by way of watching Hawaiian crickets have sex all day. Since leaving the lab he's produced podcasts science podcasts for kids at Brains On, was a 2018 AAAS Mass Media fellow at the Dallas Morning News, and wrote stories for Quanta Magazine and NPR. He enjoys running and pears. Chris Wade is a native Washingtonian and a retired member of the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, DC.   He is a Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator and currently works in healthcare security.  Chris is a graduate of the Johns Hopkins University Police Executive Leadership Program, is a certified Mental Health First Aid instructor and a certified CPI Nonviolent Crisis Intervention instructor.  He is married to his best friend and simply adores his children.  His life is filled with countless adventures which he is willing to share through storytelling.
