Story Collider Presents: Stories from Boise State

Whether we’re running a track & field race or just getting through the daily grind, we’ve all had to find our way over hurdles. Join us for an evening of five true, personal stories that share the trip-ups and triumphs over hurdles in science and life. This show is produced in partnership with the Micron School of Materials Science and Engineering at Boise State University.

Doors open at 7:30 pm. Show starts at 8:00 pm. Hosted by Erin Barker and Meisa Salaita.

Bryton Anderson grew up in a town with no stoplights. Her passions include traveling, science, paddle boarding, board games, baking, and Crossfit. Her favorite books are the Hunger Games series, Killing Kennedy: The End of Camelot, and Elon Musk Biography. Her favorite music is anything by Weezer, Coldplay, or Jack Johnson but she also loves anything you can dance too. Her favorite movies include Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Step Brothers, and Zootopia.

Brooke Dolecheck graduated from Boise State University in 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts in Multidisciplinary Studies with an emphasis in Leadership and Human Relations. She's now an undergraduate academic advisor at Boise State University in the program which she graduated from. She works with students who, like herself, have found alternative pathways to pursuing a degree when the traditional route didn't work. She's an advocate for her students - creating unique degree plans that meet the needs of students' goals and the demands of the workforce.

Krishna Pakala is an Assistant Professor in the Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering Department at Boise State University, Boise, Idaho. He teaches courses in the thermal and fluid science discipline including a first-year course. He is the Faculty in Residence for the Engineering and Innovation Living Learning Community and also the Faculty Associate for Accessibility and Universal Design for Learning. He serves as the Director for the Industrial Assessment Center at Boise State. He received his Bachelors at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad and Masters from Arizona State University. He received his Ph.D. from University of Wyoming. All his major study was in the field of Mechanical Engineering. Although he had pursued creative and independent research during his graduate studies, he found that his calling is toward teaching and methods to improve teaching and learning. His academic research interests include innovative teaching and learning strategies, use of emerging technologies, and mobile teaching and learning strategies. His long term goals are creating multi-media, high-impact and digital delivery of course content. He is also interested in developing and exploring new methods for knowledge delivery and is also interested in scholarship of learning. He is the recipient of David S. Taylor Service to Students Award and Golden Apple Award from Boise State University. He is also the recipient of ASEE Pacific Northwest Section Outstanding Teaching Award and several course design awards. He serves as the campus representative (ASEE) for Boise State and also as the Vice-Chair and Chair-Elect for the ASEE PNW Section.

Anna Roser is a biologist and remote sensing scientist. She uses small drones to monitor and measure plants in southwest Idaho. When she takes a break from the office, Anna loves to get outside. Her favorite activities are rock climbing, backpacking, and rafting. Anna is currently a Research Assistant at Boise State University. Upon completion of her masters degree, she plans to work in Boise and serve the community that his her home.

Lucas Spratling is a fourth-generation farmer from Southern Idaho, where he farms with his family, growing malt barley for Molson Coors, wheat, and alfalfa. He is a father to one amazing little boy who has brought vast amounts of happiness to both him and his wife. He has a passion for agriculture, which has caused him to become involved in an agriculture advocacy group where he now sits on the executive board of directors. This passion for agriculture also prompted Lucas to go back to school at Boise State to finish his degree so that he can be a more competent leader in his current path in life.
