Alisina Bazrafshan was born in Gorgan, Iran and obtained a B.S degree in Chemistry from Sharif University of Technology in Tehran, Iran. He moved to the US to pursue a PhD in Chemistry from Emory University. He is now a fourth year PhD student and his research focuses on the development of nanoscale motors using DNA nanotechnology. Alongside research, he also focuses on communicating science to high school students and how to better his groove on his drums and bass guitar.
Robynne Boyd began writing about people and the planet while living barefoot and by campfires on the North Shore of Kauai after college. She has worked with IISD Reporting Services as a writer, editor, and manager covering United Nations environmental negotiations on climate change, oceans and ozone. She contributed to Scientific American's "Plugged In" blog for a few years. She now writes the Southeast Dispatch for the Natural Resources Defense Council, and recently co-created "Goodgrief," an app providing peer-to-peer support for people grappling with life's hardest losses. Robynne lives in Decatur, GA, with her two beautiful little boys.
Jordan Bush is finishing up her dissertation in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Tennessee Knoxville. Her research focuses on when and where lizards fight over territories. She asks that you not confuse her obsession with lizards as a general interest in all reptiles - she does not like snakes, keep your snakes to yourself. After graduating, she has a real goal of becoming a professor at a liberal arts college, and a secret goal of becoming a science journalist and children's book author. She currently lives in Knoxville, TN with her wonderful husband, two babies, and two dogs.
A. Maureen Rouhi is Filipino by birth, Iranian by marriage, and American by choice. She comes from a family of African-Americans, Caucasians, and Asians, which includes gay/lesbian/straight professionals, manual workers, and a tattoo artist. Maureen has a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of London, in England. After a brief stint as an assistant professor of chemistry in the University of the Philippines, she landed in science communications. She has lived and worked in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and North America as a student, researcher, lecturer, scholarly publishing editor, multimedia education producer, science journalist, magazine editor-in-chief, and magazine business developer. As director of communications for the Georgia Tech College of Sciences, Maureen led Georgia Tech’s celebration of the Great American Eclipse of 2017, as well as the year-long celebration in 2019 as the International Year of the Periodic Table. In Atlanta, Maureen developed an interest in storytelling and comedy. She has told stories in Moth, Carapace, and Science Riot.
Jack Walsh is an Emmy-winning television producer, a generally engaging storyteller, a halfway-decent writer, and the world’s worst guitar player. He has performed at the Moth, Rabbit Box, the Atlanta Science Festival, DragonCon, and, strangely, a Yom Kippur service. His writing has been featured on 90.1 WABE, in Atlanta Fringe Audio, and as a winner of Creative Loafing’s annual fiction contest. A native of Canton, North Carolina, he now lives in Decatur with his wife and two daughters.
