Introductory Storytelling Workshop - August

OUR BRAND-NEW TRAINING!

Join us for our signature workshop, now completely redesigned for our socially-distant lives. This introduction to science storytelling is fun, fast, and very hands-on. You’ll join us for a total of six 1-hour sessions, MWF from 12:00 to 1:00pm ET, running from August 10th and August 21st.

What to expect:

This is our introductory-level workshop. Two experienced Story Collider trainers will give you an overview of the underlying philosophy of our style of first-person storytelling, and then support you through a series of hands-on exercises to help you find and refine your own story.

We assign episodes from our podcast archives as required listening, and then open each session with small group discussions. Lectures are tightly focused, and never exceed 15 minutes. Most of your time is spent in hands-on story development. By the end of the class, you will have drafted and shared your own true, personal story about science. Completion of this course is required for participation in our Advanced Storytelling Workshop.

Our program:

  • August 10 - Introduction and overview

  • August 12 - Focus on Events

  • August 14 - Focus on Consequences

  • August 17 - Focus on Characters

  • August 19 - Focus on Craft

  • August 20 - Optional story slam! 7pm ET

  • August 21 - Performance and conclusion
